Bat Survey in Scalpcliffe Woods, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire

Scalpcliffe Woods, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire – Bat Survey

I was instructed by East Staffordshire Borough Council to provide advice on the potential impact of new lighting in a woodland car-park on bats.

The trees were the initial focus of the assessment, but the feature with most promise as a bat roost was an old stone wall.  Bats are known to roost in rock fissures, and in gaps between stones in barn walls.  The report concluded that the car park could have improved lighting, but care was needed to avoid illuminating the wall, or if it was essential to target light on this area, to conduct emergence surveys to observe for bats flying to or from roosts in the wall to gather more information and inform an appropriate approach to mitigation.

Got a similar project in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, or Staffordshire that needs a bat survey?
