Makeney, Milford, Derbyshire

In April 2021, I was commissioned to carry out a Preliminary Roost Assessment at a residential property in Makeney, Derbyshire. The aim of the assessment was to identify potential bat roosts and assess their suitability for wildlife, following best practice guidelines.

The two-storey brick house, with a gable roof and flat-roofed extensions, sits in a rural village with a well-maintained garden. The proposed development includes significant remodelling or a complete rebuild, which may affect the roof structure.

While no direct evidence of bats was found, several areas of the building could support bat roosts that were not accessible during the initial survey. Given the moderate potential for bat use, further surveys were recommended to ensure the project aligned with wildlife protection laws.

Following these recommendations, the client was granted planning permission later that year.

Got a similar project in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, or Staffordshire that needs a bat survey?
